The University of York Outdoor Society
Every Sunday during term time the society runs a walk to a destination in the
North Yorkshire Moors or Yorkshire Dales. There are normally only 53 spaces
available on the coach so members that wish to come on the walk have to sign up beforehand.
Tickets are available during the week leading up to the walk. You can buy them
online from Monday 12:00 until Saturday 23:00
and at Vanbrugh Stalls between 12:00 and 14:00 on the Thursday
On the Sunday, members that have signed up meet outside the Roger Kirk building in
James College at 08:50 and travel by coach to the destination. The walkers
are then split into three groups: two medium groups and one long group.
Medium walks are generally between 6 and 8 miles (10-13 km) long, and tend to be at a
reasonably gentle pace and always include a stop for a pub lunch. Long walks are
slightly more challenging and are between 10 and 12 miles (16-19 km) long and
don't include a pub lunch but instead stop for a packed lunch along the way. At
16:00 all the groups meet back at the coach and return back to the University,
arriving no later than 18:00.
More information about us can be found in this year's membership booklet.
The society code of conduct is available to download in PDF format.
Walkers are required to bring a good, steardy pair of walking boots and appropriate clothing (ie no jeans).
Waterproof clothing is essential in the autumn and spring terms!
Walk leaders reserve the right to not let people on their walks if their clothing is deemed unsuitable or unsafe to walk in.
This is for your own comfort and safety!
